You start this, or nobody does
Sending us your documents
Madgett Law, LLC is a Minnesota law firm. We are evaluating whether these fee practices can be challenged in court on behalf of the people who paid them. We are looking for Minnesota consumers who still have their documents.
Why a law firm is asking
Minnesota law requires an advertised price to include every mandatory fee. In the statute’s own words:
A person engages in a deceptive trade practice when, in the course of business, vocation, or occupation, the person advertises, displays, or offers a price for goods or services that does not include all mandatory fees or surcharges.
The guides explain the law itself, including the fees it allows. Read Is this fee legal? first if you can.
How it works
You fill in a short form about one fee
The business, the date, what the fee was called, how much, where you first saw it, which documents you still have, and how to reach you. Pick-lists and single lines — there is no box for your story, and no field for a Social Security, card, or account number. The form has no upload. It asks which documents you have; if we want copies, we ask you for them and tell you how to send them.
You get an acknowledgment, and only that
A reference number and a copy of what you agreed to. It reads the same whatever you typed. No software on this site scores, ranks, or estimates what you send; a lawyer reads it.
We check for conflicts
A firm cannot look at your situation until it knows whether it already represents someone on the other side. If there is a conflict, we tell you we cannot proceed; we cannot tell you who or why.
If it is clear, you get a link to a short second step
Two questions: anything else about the fee, in a few sentences, and whether you have raised it with anyone. Please keep your documents in the meantime.
A lawyer reads it
We are not able to take every matter, and we will tell you if we cannot.
This is not the Attorney General, and not a government office
The Minnesota Attorney General is a separate government office that takes complaints from the public. Madgett Law, LLC is a private law firm and does not. Sending us documents is not a way to reach the Attorney General or any other government office: we do not forward what you send, and we share it outside this firm only as the notice above our form describes or as the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct permit or require. If what you want is for the state to know, go to the Minnesota Attorney General’s own website. You can do both; one does not replace the other.
You do not have to use us
Nothing requires you to use this firm, or any firm. The Minnesota State Bar Association runs a lawyer referral service, legal aid organizations serve people who meet their income guidelines, and you are free to find a consumer-protection lawyer yourself. You can also do nothing. That is a legitimate choice.
Who we are, and what it costs
David J.S. Madgett, Minnesota Bar No. 390494, is responsible for the content of this site and is licensed to practice in Minnesota only. There is no charge for sending us documents, and sending them does not make us your lawyers. What Madgett Law, LLC sells is legal representation — only if you ask for it, only if we agree to take your case, and on fee terms set out in a written agreement before any work starts.
